Our family mourns the loss of Ruth Irene Greene-Alford who passed away on October 17, 2016, after suffering from diabetes complications. She was born on December 27, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ruth was a retired educator serving in the Lynwood Unified School District and Los Angeles Unified School District. She was also a devout member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
On December 13, 1965, Ruth wed Ellis Alford whom she was married to for 47 years. They lived in Baldwin Hills, California and later moved to Norwalk, California where they resided for nearly 40 years. Ellis preceded her in death in 2013.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Anita Robinson of Norwalk, CA; son William “Billie” Robinson of Norwalk, CA; stepdaughter Jenellis Alford of Oklahoma City, OK; stepson Kevin Free (Olga) of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren Antonio Robinson, Kevin G. Bennett, Kevin E. Free, Aaron Robinson, Melissa E. Free, Angela Whiting and Joel H.C. Free. She also leaves a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ruth is the wife of the late Ellis Alford, who is the son George and Bernice Alford; Grandson of Wesley Dow Alford; and G/Grandson of Matthew Solomon Alford.
Funeral services were be held Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Rose Hills Mortuary Hillside Chapel in Whittier, CA.
