Shirley La Dean Jennings, of Oklahoma City, OK went to her heavenly home on Friday January 28, 2022. She was born on December 11, 1937 in Holdenville, OK to Carl Sr. and Sophie Jennings. Shirley graduated in 1956 from Fairview High School. Afterwards, she moved to Norman, Oklahoma, and began working in the medical and surgical units of a mental health hospital. After passing pre-nursing courses at Shawnee Oklahoma Baptist University, Ms. Jennings transferred to Baptist Memorial Hospital (now Integris Baptist Medical Center), completed the hospital’s student nursing program in 1963, and began working for BMH as a professional nurse. Her career advanced through a variety of increasingly responsible positions: first as an Emergency Room surgery technician, from staff nurse to Administrative positions, including Assistant Director of Patient Care services and Nursing Support Coordinator. In 2004, Ms. Jennings retired from Integris Baptist Medical Center – but not from nursing. She continued serving and teaching at Francis Tuttle Vocational Center in addition to volunteer work in her community.
Shirley was preceded in death by an infant brother, Hobert; her father and mother; Jennings brothers: Carl Jr., Harold, Hubert, and Wesley; and sisters Lola Jennings-Woods, and Edna Jennings.
To cherish fond memories, Shirley leaves behind multiple generations of mourners: her daughters Teresa Jennings and Sharron (Terri) Todd-Cunningham; grandson Tony, and granddaughters Brittney and Kendra; and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves brothers and their spouses: Adrian (and Lois) Jennings, Edwin (and Marjorie) Jennings; as well as her sisters, Linda Barnett, Glenda (and husband Booker) Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
