The Alford Family Association Scholarship
The Alford Family Scholarship
Mission Statement
The Alford Family Scholarship was established to assist and encourage Alford family members who are pursuing higher education goals. It is mainly funded by the donations of family members. In order provide a reasonable level of support, it is incumbent upon family members to be more committed to financially supporting the ambitions of our younger generations.
A family member may request to be considered for an award or may be recommended by some other family member. The Committee should be contacted (usually via email) and provided with information regarding the applicant’s family affiliation, their intended course of study, and the institution they plan to attend.
No family member may receive an award in successive calendar years or more than two awards over four years.
The requirements to be considered for an award are:
-
Applicant must be the child of a recognized member of the Alford family and a descendant of Matilda Ann, Matthew Solomon, Mary, Lafayette, Rosie, Major Clemon or John Henry.
-
The applicant or the immediate family member who recommends them must have attended at least one of the last two Family Reunions.
-
Applicant must present proof of attendance at an accredited college or university.. This can be a class schedule, tuition receipt, etc.
-
It is preferable that applications are received by the first day of September in the year the applicant plans to attend college.
