Our family has lost a treasured matriarch. Zenobia Wanda Jean “Sugar Pie” Alford-Hooks passed away on August 11, 2022, at the tender age of 80.
Sugar Pie was born on September 5, 1941, to the late Vernon “Gutchey” Alford and Ida Lee Alford in Wichita, Kansas. She was the oldest of seven children born to this union. She will be forever cherished for her dedication, beauty, and fiery spirit. Those who loved her will fondly remember her sophisticated style, fondness of music and love for cross word puzzles.
Sugar Pie dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for many years. She was a bright student and was educated in Wichita area schools. Upon completion, she went on to work professionally in retail and sales at Modo Day Boutique, Montgomery Wards, and Dollar General.
Sugar Pie is survived by her grandson, Don Alford-Chapman; brother, Israel D. Alford; sister’s, Beverly A. Alford-Allen, and Idella Alford-Johnson; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Steven Weaver Hooks; parents, Vernon “Gutchey” Alford & Ida Shaffer-Alford; son, Robert E. Alford; brother, Joe E. Alford; sister’s, Elouise Alford and Vernie L. Alford-Stevenson.
